News: Skagit Valley College/KSVR filed an application to begin a new radio station for the Upper Skagit River Valley!
The filing was accepted by the Federal Communications Commission, and we are now awaiting approval from the Canadian Radio and Television Commission (our new antenna will be located within 150 Km of the border). We hope to hear word in the next few months. The SVC/KSVR radio service staff has started discussions for upcoming detailed planning to build the station, create a production facility, and for meeting with residents of Lyman, Hamilton, Birdsview, Concrete, and Rockport, to prepare for the production of local programming.

This application has already cost SVC and KSVR over $8000 in engineering, legal, and staff hours.
We are not finished. We expect to need nearly $30,000 in public support to make the radio station a reality.
While a grant is available to help, and we are intending to apply, it will require a matching contribution from local fund raising efforts. We are starting now.
You can help KSVR extend service to our neighbors by becoming a member for $25.

Call Teresa Pantoja at 416-7893 to order yours.

Sign up for the 10 week (30 hour) course, learn how you can produce a basic music program, report and write a basic news story, and confidence in speaking on the air. This 3-credit college accreditated course costs about $240 (call SVC registration office 416-7654 for exact costs). For your tuition, you will get knowledge about professional radio station equipment operation, computer based editing, and 8-10 hours of live, hands-on broadcast time to get practical experience. (Headphones required, no book is required.)

Once a student, you will also have exposure to live music recording, talk show set up, dramatic acting and recording, and editing and SFX techniques, as well as exposure to a wealth of musical variety.

Our internet streaming is sent at 64kbps/44kHz, in stereo, and is designed for high speed "broadband" connections. Older computers and dialup connections, including 56K, may NOT work well. We are seeking business underwriting support for a second stream at lower rate to serve our "dial up" listeners, but we have not been able to secure that funding. If you can help please contact Rip Robbins at 360-416-7711.
Our radio stream can be heard using a variety of audio stream players, including iTunes. Click here for free iTunes download.
