KSVR News: Cheers to Dr. Dee!

Dave “Dr. Dee” McConnell

After over 12 years of bringing jazz to our Monday nights, our dear friend and longtime Skagit Valley College Community Radio host Dr. Dee (aka Dave McConnell) is officially retiring from his two hour jazz program on KSVR/KSVU, The Dr’s Den.

From ragtime to avant-garde jazz, Dr. Dee’s collection—and his passion—has been unmatched. He’s introduced us to 100 years of jazz history, championed up-and-coming artists and the local live jazz scene, and always made Mondays something to look forward to.

But his impact goes way beyond the mic. Dr. Dee has been a huge part of the KSVR family—contributing to Skagit Talks as an interviewer, co-founding Speak Up! Speak Out!, a radio show committed to community, peace, justice, and non-violence issues, acting as KSVR station manager, recording and producing the live jazz program Fourth Corner Jazz, helping organize International Jazz Day Northwest, and so many other projects behind the scenes. He’s helped shape the sound, the spirit, and the heart of this station.

We’re going to miss his voice, his stories, and his love for the music—but we’re also just so dang grateful.

Help us wish Dr. Dee the happiest retirement! Thank you for everything, Dave. You’ll always have a place in the Den.
